Survivors of opioid overdose are at great risk of dying in the year after overdose, but the deaths are not always caused by drug use, a new study reveals.

“The point of the story is less about suicide increasing in women but more about being aware,” said Dr. Kelly Posner Gerstenhaber. That awareness should focus on the fact that suicide is preventable.
The country needs to take suicide and mental illness more seriously said Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman, noting that depression and bipolar disorder can be treated successfullyand suicide is often preventable.
“It’s not something that spontaneously, abruptly happens without any preceding process,” said Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman. “The idea that #suicide is not preventable is completely fallacious.”
