Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis
The Child Division of the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center offers numerous training programs in analysis and in psychotherapy to enhance your work with your child patients.
For those seeking intensive training in psychoanalysis with adults, children, and adolescents, the Center provides child and adolescent training and adolescent-only training tracks to be combined with adult psychoanalytic training. For those seeking faster progression to child analytic certification without training in adult analysis, the center offers the Accelerated Child Psychoanalysis program.
Candidates who chose to combine child and adolescent or adolescent-only psychoanalytic training with our adult program, add the following components to their adult requirements:
- didactic courses detailed in our curriculum
- participation in case conferences, including the presentation of child and/or adolescent cases in both the child and the adult programs
- the supervised psychoanalytic treatment of child and/or adolescent cases (not fewer than three cases with age and gender distributions for child and adolescent candidates or two cases for adolescent-only candidates)
The Center’s child and adolescent and adolescent-only psychoanalysis training programs are conducted, in part, in conjunction with the New York Psychoanalytic Institute and the NYU Psychoanalytic Institute.
The adult curriculum for child trainees will be taught as follows:
- all Monday classes are taught in person
- all Thursday classes are taught over Zoom
Currently, the Thursday evening child analysis courses are taught remotely. As a collaboration with our colleagues at NYPSI and PANY, the program’s plans for 2024-25 are still pending.
The Child Division also offers training opportunities for those interested in developing their skills in psychodynamic psychotherapy with children and in parent-infant psychotherapy.
