For Participants

Prospective Genetic Risk Evaluation and Assessment (PROGRESS) in Autism

Our study seeks to examine how your baby develops: how they look, listen, and learn from the world around them. We also want to know how they play and socialize with caregivers. We also want to know how parents are feeling and doing as their babies develop.

What Is the Progress Center Study?

You may be invited to participate in:

  • Online surveys about you or your child
  • In-person visits with your child
  • Zoom interviews at 2, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, and 18 months
  • Parental survey

How Are Participants for the Progress Study Selected?

Participants are recruited to join the PROGRESS Center Study from the GUARDIAN study directed by Wendy Chung, MD, PhD.

What Are We Studying?

  • Genetic variants that affect brain development
  • Early brain and behavior development in babies with or without genetic variants
  • Experiences of parents of these babies

How Will My Family Be Supported During the Study?

  • Our Family Navigator will provide support in getting care or services you or your child may need
  • Our Clinical Psychologist will evaluate your child at 24 months (or earlier) to test if they have a developmental delay or an autism diagnosis.
  • You will be provided with a report that includes recommendations for early intervention or further testing.
  • Families receive compensation for their time.

Is the Study Risky?

  • We don't foresee any medical risks directly related to our study, and you may opt out of our study at any time.
  • Your child's genetic information and privacy is protected using nonidentifiable IDs
