Internship Programs
These internships offer the opportunity to learn about how critical research questions are developed based on an existing body of knowledge, to carry out research projects to answer these critical questions, and to present the findings in journals and to conference audiences. Past interns on our team have gone on to successfully apply for graduate, medical and law school. The Center for Behavioral Health and Youth Justice has two internship tracks: Field and Research Work and Publishing.
Research Intern Program: Field and Research Work
What to Expect
Interns will gain valuable hands-on experience in both prevention/intervention projects focused at the youth/family level and system-level/implementation projects. Examples of skills include learning how to use resources and strategies to locate and recruit study participants, using administrative data to evaluate and adapt interventions, and how to conduct qualitative or structured interviews. In addition, working with the Center will provide insight into how research, justice, and treatment agencies collaborate to effectively implement interventions. Other opportunities may include discussing ideas when brainstorming about difficult cases, improving quality control (reviewing of interviews, storage of identifying information, and post-data collection procedures), learning new statistical software, the possibility for data analysis of previous qualitative or quantitative data, creation of poster presentations, and access to an excellent interdisciplinary team of researchers.

- Performing participant tracking and recruitment
- Contributing to system mapping of available treatment resources within a given geographic area
