The ‘Man O’ War’ program, a research project studying the effectiveness of horse therapy for veterans with PTSD, will be now fully managed by Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
Ketamine was significantly more effective than a commonly used sedative in reducing suicidal thoughts in depressed patients, according to researchers at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC).
"These results enable us to determine whether potential treatments will be effective against patients' symptoms by testing them first in healthy volunteers," said Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman.
Drs. Yuval Neria and Prudence Fisher are examining equine therapy's efficacy. They hope to define a specific standardized equine treatment program for people who have PTSD.
Ecstasy "needs to be looked at in a very careful and rigorously controlled way to accrue evidence showing what it can do and what its potential liability is," says Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman.
While some people may benefit from sharing their experiences, others risk experiencing more trauma by recalling them, says Dr. Elias Dakwar, Columbia University’s Division on Substance Abuse.
