Joshua Tolkien Kantrowitz, MD

Overview
Joshua Kantrowitz, MD, is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Columbia University Department of Psychiatry and New York State Psychiatric Institute. He is also the Director of the Columbia Schizophrenia Research Center. His career focuses especially on the negative symptoms and cognitive deficits of schizophrenia, which are amongst the strongest predictors of which patients will have ongoing disability and which will recover. These symptoms are generally resistant to anti-dopaminergic therapies primarily targeting the dopamine type 2 receptor (D2R). A major challenge in development of non-D2R approaches for schizophrenia has been the failure to translate results of promising single-site findings to pivotal, Phase-II/III multicenter efficacy trials. The overarching theme of his work has been to increase the informational utility of early-stage clinical trials within the drug-development pipeline. Dr. Kantrowitz has conducted numerous early stage, target engagement biomarker studies with novel therapeutics using neurophysiological and neuroimaging biomarkers.
Dr. Kantrowitz has published over 96 peer-reviewed scientific papers in these fields.
