Jane Rosenthal, MD

Overview
Dr. Jane Rosenthal was born in New York City and attended the University of Michigan where she earned a BA with High Honors in Social Science. She completed medical school at George Washington University and moved back to New York to undertake a year long medical internship at Beth Israel Medical Center. She then pursued her Psychiatry Residency and Fellowship in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. She received her Certification in Psychoanalysis from the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, and later completed the Montefiore Einstein Certificate Program in Bioethics and Medical Humanities. She opened a private office on the Upper West Side after completing her training. For a decade she served as the psychiatric consultant to the Columbia Fertility Service, and worked with egg donation recipients/couples and well as prospective egg donors. In 2008, she founded the Psychoanalytic Fellowship at the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center and remained its director for 13 years; she is now the Director Emeritus. Also in 2008 she was recruited to NYU where she founded and then directed the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service at Tisch Hospital/NYU Langone Medical Center; she remained in that position for 7+ years until moving to the Perlmutter Cancer Center/NYU where she assumed leadership as the Medical Director of Psychosocial Services for nearly 6 years. She has been a member of the Tisch Ethics Committee since 2008, and served as its chair for three years. She also is an affiliate faculty member in the Division of Ethics, Department of Population Health/NYU Langone. Over the years she has taught and supervised medical students, residents and fellows. She is currently in full time private practice on the Upper West Side.
