Eating Disorders Roundtable at The White House
September 14, 2016 - Dr. Evelyn Attia was invited by the National Institute of Mental Health to attend an Eating Disorders Roundtable at the White House on September 14th.
The meeting included representative clinicians, scientists, and advocates from the eating disorders field, together with representatives from several government agencies, including NIH, Office on Women’s Health, Department of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The goal of the meeting was to discuss several aspects of eating disorders treatment and research, including how mental health parity laws were contributing to treatment accessibility for individuals with eating disorders. Additionally, the group discussed the complexity of eating disorders and the importance of assuring adequate research funding in this area.
