Overview
After psychiatry training at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center including a certificate in Psychoanalysis I developed a special interest in addiction, trauma and dissociation. I have now worked now in this area over 25 years and have used a variety of treatments including psychotherapy, medication, EMDR, and hypnosis, paying special attention to body symptoms. I have often had success with patients who have had refractory depression and self destructive behavior.

Research
I have a special interest in how the personality, the body, and the mind are affected by severe trauma, especially childhood abuse and neglect.. Dissociative experiences cause compartmentalization of traumatic experiences, amnesia, and repetitive re-enactments.
