Carolyn J Douglas, MD
Overview
A graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Carolyn Douglas is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and Adjunct Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. After joining the faculty at Columbia in 1984, Dr. Douglas specialized in the evaluation and treatment of hospitalized patients with complex psychiatric, emotional, and behavioral problems, often complicated by medical illness or substance abuse.
In the past, she served as Director of the medical-psychiatric inpatient unit at Columbia University Medical Center, Co-Director of the McKeen Behavioral Unit (Columbia Neuropsychiatric Service), and Medical Director of the Comprehensive Evaluation Service.
She has been closely involved in residency training throughout her career, has been the recipient of "Teacher of the Year" awards from residents both at Columbia and at Weill-Cornell for her teaching and supervision of supportive psychodynamic psychotherapy, and has contributed as a co-author to several textbooks on psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychodynamic formulation. She has served on the voluntary faculty at Columbia since 2007 and is currently a course instructor in Psychotherapy for Analysts, a course for candidates in psychoanalysis at the Columbia Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research.
