"It's very rare to see a suicide, death, or even an attempt outside the context of a psychiatric illness, half the time that illness is a depression," said Dr. John Mann.
“More and more, people see [attachment as] less categorical and more on a spectrum,” said Dr. Amir Levine, associate professor of clinical psychiatry at Columbia.
The new data are promising in relation to being able to apply to kids who already have some developmental concerns as well as those in the general population, said Dr. Jeremy Veenstra-VanderWeele.
Dr. Warren Ng, a professor of psychiatry at Columbia, said that many of the young people he treats have had difficulty getting their medications month to month.
Columbia researchers have found that exposure to too much dopamine during mid-adolescent causes changes in the brain that lead to aggressive and impulsive behaviors during adulthood.
