An international group of experts has concluded that, for patients with schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders, antipsychotic medications do not have negative long-term effects.
Long assumed to be a mere "relay," an often-overlooked structure in the middle of the brain also turns out to play a pivotal role in tuning-up thinking circuity.
"The evidence overwhelmingly suggests that the majority of patients with schizophrenia benefit from antipsychotic treatment, says Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman.
