Update: Emergency Planning for Hurricane Sandy

October 29, 2012

To All NYSPI Staff:

The NYPSI Incident Command Center has been active since 5:00 PM yesterday (10/28) and will be active for the duration of the storm.

NYSPI is open but please be aware that we are at minimal staffing and our focus will be on maintaining our critical services and programs.

A reminder to staff that all clinical and research appointments and procedures should be cancelled through close of business day Tuesday.

We expect to have adequate staffing through this evening but might have a shortage of registered nursing staff starting at midnight. If you are an RN and live in the Manhattan area we can pick you up this morning before 12 noon but be prepared to stay overnight because we might not be able to get you home.

Any staff in the essential areas (clinical, animal care, security, nutrition, or engineering) who live in the Manhattan area and are willing to come to work please call the Command Center at 212-543-6692 or 6695 before 12 noon and we will send a car to pick you up at your home. If you have a car we will provide parking at the Institute. NYPSI has provisions for all who will be staying overnight.

Please watch for additional e-mail updates from the Director’s office throughout the day or check online at

Thank you for your cooperation and stay safe!

The NYSPI Emergency Management Team
