The NYPSI Incident Command Center has been active since 5:00 PM Sunday (10/28) and will be active for the duration of the storm and its aftermath. While the worst of the storm has passed it is unlikely that subway and bus service will return to normal before Thursday. The bridges are slowly opening but many of he roads are littered with debris and are closed. Please checkhttp://www.nyc.gov/html/oem/html/ for updates.
NYPSI has been lucky, as we have experienced only limited leaks and wind damage to the front entrance of the Kolb. Our biggest challenge remains staffing of our critical services, as many of our staff is still unable to get to work. As more bridges and roads open we expect all essential staff to report to work for their tour of duty. Any staff in the essential areas (clinical, animal care, security, nutrition, or engineering) who live in the Manhattan area and do not have transportation please call the Command Center at 212-543-6692 or 6695 and we may be able to make arrangements to pick you up at your home. If you have a car we will provide parking at the Institute. Bring a change of clothing and any essential medications, as there is a possibility you will have to stay overnight. NYPSI will provide provisions for all who stay. Your help will be much appreciated and needed.
We will start opening up our outpatient clinical and research areas on Wednesday to those patients and participant that must be seen. Since we are still focusing on staffing our critical services we want to try to limit visits to those patients and research subjects you are worried about or whom you feel it necessary to check in with in person.
Child grand rounds and all classes will be cancelled on Wednesday. We will update you tomorrow or later today as we get more information and make more decisions regarding operations.
