Columbia Psychiatry provides outstanding training programs for psychology, social work, nursing, and other disciplines, as well as an extensive program of staff training at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. Our clinical training programs use the combined resources of the New York State Psychiatric Institute, Columbia University, and New York Presbyterian Hospital to provide locations for teaching and exposure to patients.

The NYS Psychiatric Institute Department of Nursing's mission includes clinical care, research, and education of trainees. Departmental clinicians strive to: provide the highest quality care/ treatments in the least restrictive environment possible; generate/support/participate in research protocols; and train a new generation of healthcare providers in both traditional and newer therapies.

The aim of the Social Work Department is to provide individuals with psychiatric illness and their families with the most effective, modern and compassionate psychosocial treatments while at the same time advancing scientific knowledge about psychosocial dimensions of mental disorders and their treatments.
