Schizophrenia is one of the most complex of all mental health disorders. It involves a severe, chronic, and disabling disturbance of the brain, and often presents with hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking. Schizoaffective disorder is an illness in which there are both severe mood swings (mania and/or depression), and some of the psychotic symptoms of schizophrenia. Thorough evaluation and treatment, including medication, group therapy, and cognitive remediation treatment, can lead to significant improvements in quality of life for people with these disorders and their family members.
