Clinical Services - Complete Listing

Our department's clinical services are provided in a variety of settings. Columbia University Psychiatry clinical programs are listed below. Extensive psychiatric services are also offered through the NewYork Presbyterian Hospital and the New York State Psychiatric Institute, and through a number of affiliated hospitals. Clinical treatment is offered by many of our research programs, generally at no cost, through a wide range of clinical trials.



To help individuals obtain the services best suited to their needs, the Department of Psychiatry provides Telephone Referral Service. The Referral Service is staffed by clinical psychologists at a dedicated call-center at our campus, who consult over the telephone in order to facilitate a referral to an appropriate clinic, program, or private clinician.

Columbia University's Inpatient Program combines the advantages of an outstanding psychiatric treatment team and the location of a world-class academic medical center.

Columbia University Day Program - Eastside

A unique clinical service for previously or potentially high-functioning people who can benefit from structured treatment to complement their ongoing individual outpatient therapy.

Addiction Services

Comprehensive inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment is available that meets the needs of patients within one integrated system. Our programs provide state-of-the-art treatment and continuing care based on the latest research in discreet, professional, and comfortable settings.

The Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity (ADHD) Service

"OPENING January 2007" - The Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity (ADHD) Service offers comprehensive, state-of-the-art diagnostic evaluation and treatment for affected individuals with known or suspected ADHD. We also evaluate and treat adolescents in college or preparing for college.
College Student Program

The College Student Program, part of the Columbia Day Program, is an outpatient clinical service designed for students here in the city or returning home from out-of-town schools for acute psychiatric treatment. 

Cognitive Remediation Services

People with problems paying attention, remembering, reasoning, or staying organized can now receive state- of- the-art treatment to improve their thinking skills. We offer cognitive remediation groups and skills enhancement training for people who are experiencing a decline in their cognitive functioning.

Comprehensive Evalution Service

Comprehensive diagnostic assessment and consultation about treatment for people age 18 years and older with complex psychiatric, behavioral and emotional problems; conditions where the diagnosis is unclear; illnesses that are resistant to standard therapies; questions about treatment that require a second opinion; and conditions complicated by substance abuse or medical illness.

Autism and Related Developmental Neuropsychiatric Disorders

Evaluation and treatment service for individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders that affect socialization and communication, including, but not limited to, autism and related autistic spectrum disorders.

Brain Stimulation Service

The Brain Stimulation Service is a unique specialty program offering expert consultations, treatment, and referrals for individuals with treatment resistant depression.

Buprenorphine Program for Opiate Maintenance and Detoxification

Outpatient therapy for opiate dependence, specializing in the induction and stabilization phase of a buprenorphine maintenance program, as well as the use of buprenorphine for detoxification.

Eating Disorders Assessment & Treatment Service

The Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment Service offers comprehensive evaluations and treatment referrals for patients with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and obesity.

Intensive Outpatient Program

The Intensive Outpatient Program at Columbia University Medical Center provides complete outpatient treatment of adult patients with acute psychiatric disorders.

The Lieber Recovery and Rehabilitation Clinic for Psychotic Disorders

The Lieber Recovery and Rehabiliation Clinic for Psychotic Disorders serves individuals with diagnoses of schizophrenia and related conditions, providing a range of psychiatric, rehabilitation, and supportive services. We embrace a Recovery Model, with the goal that participants can rebuild and develop their lives.

Center For Light Treatment and Biological Rhythms

Years of innovative research at Columbia and worldwide have paid off with a newly recognized, non-drug treatment for depression: light therapy. This approach is based on the latest concepts of interaction between structured light exposure, the biological clock, hormonal balance, and mood and energy regulation.

Neuropsychiatric Service for Lyme Disease and Related Conditions

Lyme Disease is the best known tick-borne disease, though several other infections are also caused by ticks and can cause similar symptoms. The goal of this service is to help Lyme Disease patients in the clarification of their diagnosis and treatment planning.

Neuropsychological Assessment Service

This service provides state-of-the-art diagnostic testing and evaluations for a wide variety of neuropsychiatric and neurological disorders, as well as learning and memory problems.

Psychoanalytic Center

Provides psychoanalytic treatment to people in the greater metropolitan area. As part of Columbia's Department of Psychiatry, the Center is enriched by experts from the biological, psychological, and social sciences. The Psychoanalytic Center offers diagnostic consultations and psychoanalysis at low fees.

The Women's Program

The Women's Program in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University was created to address the particular mental health needs of women across the reproductive life cycle. The program offers state of the art expert consultation and treatment conducted by psychiatrists with particular expertise in women's mental health. Our program includes internationally renowned faculty in the field of reproductive psychiatry.
